Autoblog: "According to the presentation, the Accord's most serious competitors are the Toyota Camry and the Nissan Altima. The Altima is considered more sporty, the Camry more luxurious, and the new Accord is meant to slot comfortably, and perfectly, between the two."........."The Camry's latest redesign was purposeful enough that you could say it was actually styled. The Altima was done so well from the beginning that it drop-kicked the Maxima into some dark, quiet place. The Accord's new body was meant to give it some in-your-face-ness that would get the attention of the young professionals researching the segment and yet, as ever, wouldn't alienate the Accord lover. "


About.com: "It's less sporting than the Mazda6 and Subaru Legacy, more lively than the Toyota Camry, and it grips the road better than the base-model Nissan Altima."........"But the sedan's oddly-shaped 14 cubic foot trunk is smaller than most of its rivals. Furthermore, the back seat folds down but doesn't split, and the opening between trunk and cabin is small."........."There's no denying the Accord is an appealing package. The light, nimble handling makes the car feel more youthful and energetic than the Camry, making it more appealing to those of us who prefer small cars."........."But the Accord's button-happy interior is a real turn-off. Look at gadgets like the iPod and iPhone. Complex interfaces are out; simple, intuitive controls are in. Nearly all of the Accord's rivals are more user-friendly."


The New York Times: "The new sedan and coupe are each about three inches longer than the models they replace. That makes the 2008 sedan five inches longer than the Camry."........."The EX sedans and coupes with automatic transmissions are equipped with active noise control, previously found on the Accord Hybrid, which uses two microphones to detect “low-end drivetrain frequency noise” entering the cabin. That sets off a reverse-phase audio signal to reduce the “booming sound of the exhaust…… The all-new 2008 Chevrolet Malibu lacks such gimmicks yet seems quieter."........."Meanwhile, the Accord’s body movements are far more tightly controlled than those in the Camry. That means the Accord always feels sharp and eager while the Camry (except for the SE version with a sport suspension) often feels bouncy."........."A fair amount of the credit for this performance comes from a gifted five-speed automatic that is fabulously quick to downshift and invariably selects just the right gear to accelerate out of a corner. …… By comparison, the automatic in the Camry seems drowsy. "


Edmunds.com: "At the test track, the new Accord hit 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and ran the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91.8 mph. That's a solid improvement over the Accord in our last V6 Family Sedan Comparison Test, but it's still well behind the Camry V6 that whomped to 60 in just 6.5 seconds and scorched the quarter in 14.6 seconds at 97.3 mph."........"The Camry's V6 is also rated at 268 hp and the Toyota weighs a little less than the 3,572-pound Accord, but the biggest problem is the Accord's engine electronics. With the standard VSA stability control turned off, the Accord's computer doesn't allow full-throttle acceleration until about 20 mph. At that speed, the car barks the tires and takes off, but by that time any chance of out-sprinting the Toyota is long gone."

"Another advantage is the Toyota's six-speed automatic, which allows the car to exploit its V6 more effectively than the Honda's five-speed. It also helps the Camry return very good fuel economy (19 city/28 highway for 2008) without the use of a cylinder-deactivation scheme." ..........."The Camry V6 still has a performance advantage over the Accord V6, but no one buys cars in this class to go racing. And on a feature-for-feature, utility-for-utility basis, the two cars seem to be running in a dead heat."
