2008 Honda Accord Sedan

FUEL ECONOMY SPECIFICATIONS: 2008 Honda Accord Sedan

Honda.com: "Honda was the first manufacturer to offer Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicles (ULEV)-rated emission technology on a production vehicle. With the introduction of the 2008 Accord, Honda is also now the first automaker to offer a lineup that includes both 4-cylinder and V-6 models meeting the even stricter Partial-Zero-Emission Vehicle (PZEV) standards."

Autoblog: "An available 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine produces 268-horsepower - the most ever for any Accord - while introducing a new generation of fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) technology and achieving a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV*) rating. The VCM system operates in six-cylinder mode for power and 4- and 3-cylinder modes for efficiency, resulting in an EPA city/highway fuel economy rating of 19/29* miles per gallon (Accord Sedan V-6)."

About.com: "The good news: Automatics get an improved version of Honda's Variable Cylinder Management system, which runs the engine on 3, 4 or 6 cylinders as needed to save fuel. I tried the old version of VCM on a 2006 Odyssey minivan and it does wonders for fuel economy."
Popular Mechanics: "Honda predicts EPA mileage numbers of 21/31 mpg city/highway for automatic four-cylinder cars—simply excellent fuel economy for a car this size."

The New York Times: "Regular fuel is recommended for all engines. In states that have adopted California’s air-quality regulations — including New York and most of New England — the V-6 with automatic transmission gets an extra-clean PZEV rating (for partial zero emission vehicle)."

Canadian Driver: "In combined driving, most of it in urban rather than highway situations, I averaged 10.1 L/100 km to the 9.9 L official rating.” (for 2.4-litre version)"

Edmunds.com: “We averaged 24.4 mpg in mixed driving and walked away impressed by Honda's VCM system. It worked its 3/4/6-cylinder magic without anyone in the cockpit noticing. The green "ECON" light in the dash is the only clue. Considering the Accord has an 18.5-gallon tank, it's possible to go 450 miles between fill-ups.” (for 3.5 litres SOHC 24-valve i-VTEC V6)
