DIMENSION SPECIFICATIONS: 2008 Honda Accord Sedan Interior & Exterior Dimensions Specs

Completely redesigned for 2008, this new eighth generation Honda Accord comes with increased dimensions for a more spacious interior. Honda has stretched its mainstay Accord sedan enough that the redesigned 2008 model moves up, barely, to full size from midsize. It's the biggest Honda car, and the automaker hopes it now will compete against the full-size Toyota Avalon as well as the midsize Toyota Camry.

Canadian Driver: "Anyone can make a car bigger; the trick is in making it better when you do. For 2008, Honda has redesigned its Accord, and has managed to do both. It's now in its eighth generation - it's been around for 32 years believe it or not, although the first-generation model had a wheelbase shorter than the current Honda Fit."

BS Motoring: "The new Accord is a taller car overall and that means getting in and out is easier than what it used to be."

Honda.com: "Dimensionally, the Accord Sedan's overall length of 194.1 inches (4-cylinder models, V-6 models add 0.2 inches for front spoiler lip) is 3.0 inches longer than the 2007 model. The width of 72.7 inches is 1.1 inches wider, and the height of 58.1 inches is 0.9 inches taller. Even though the size is larger in every dimension, the vehicle's torsional rigidity has increased by 20 percent as a result of advanced body construction that uses 48 percent high-tensile steel - the most high-tensile steel by volume of any Accord to date. A significant benefit to the advanced body construction is that total vehicle weight increased only by approximately 5 percent despite the larger size, greater rigidity and added features."

Autoblog: "The Accord for 2008 is available as a sedan, which has grown large enough to be classified a large car by the EPA” “Considering the Accord is now classified as a Large Car by the EPA (but just barely), it will face competition from above and below, particularly the hotly contested Mid-Size segment populated by the Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata.”

USA Today: “It's the biggest Honda car, and the automaker hopes it now will compete against the full-size Toyota Avalon as well as the midsize Toyota Camry. “ “The '08 Accord, on sale Sept. 12, is roughly an inch wider, an inch taller and 3 inches longer than before.”

Popular Mechanics: “No surprise here: Just as Honda has done with each previous generation, it’s made the new Accord bigger, better and more powerful than the one preceding it.” “The Accord four-door sedan’s wheelbase grows 2.3 in. and length stretches 3.0 in.—and that’s enough, says the Environmental Protection Agency, to push the Accord sedan up a size class to “large” (the two-door coupe remains a “compact”)."

Honda.com: "The larger Accord Sedan total interior volume of 120.0 cubic feet (+3.3 cubic feet compared to 2007) moves the EPA classification from the midsize sedan class to the large sedan class. The additional space is intended to provide "equal" seating comfort for front and rear passengers. Rear legroom of 37.2 inches (+0.4 inches) approaches the impressive second row legroom of the Honda Pilot SUV (37.4 inches). The wider interior (+1.5 inches) allows the front seats to be positioned farther apart to allow for a wide center console more commonly associated with the finest luxury vehicles."

USA Today: "The extra size isn't wasted. Back seat riders benefit most, getting, Honda says, an inch or more extra leg and knee room. There's enough back there to be comfortable, even when front seats are far back."

About.com: "Among the Accord's most noticeable improvements is the bigger interior. Accords without a sunroof have just enough interior room to be classified by the EPA as large rather than mid-size cars."
